Tater Tot Casserole is the perfect comforting family friendly dish - all made low calorie friendly with lean seasoned ground beef with carrots and corn in a creamy sauce, topped with melted cheese and golden crispy tater tots.
Everyone loves a tater tot, so there is nothing better than using them as a topping for pie instead of a traditional topping like pastry or mashed potatoes. It's an effortless easy recipe to make any night of the week.

What are Tater Tots?
Tater tots are just like mini hash browns - grated potatoes formed into cylinder shapes with a crispy golden exterior and fluffy on the inside interior. Created by Ore-Ida an American brand of potato based frozen foods.
In the UK you will find these are called Hash Brown Bites - all supermarkets have their own versions, but if you prefer you can also use a smaller amount of regular hash browns.

What is Tater Tot Casserole?
There are various different versions of tater tot casserole, from ones with ground beef like the recipe here, to breakfast versions, loaded versions and even veggies versions.
They are most commonly served as a side to breakfast items, but a great topping for pies too.

for my version of this tater tot casserole you will need to grab the following ingredients:
- extra lean ground beef
- onion
- garlic
- carrot

- paprika
- Worcestershire sauce
- chicken stock
- frozen sweet corn
- light garlic and herb cream cheese
- cheddar
- tater tots or hash brown bites

See the recipe card for full quantities.
Once all the ingredients are prepared, you can get ready to make this easy recipe in the Air Fryer.
How many Calories is in this Tater Tot Casserole?
This delicious Tater Tot Casserole is only 441 calories per serving. Paired with a healthy portion of vegetables you will have yourself a filling meal that doesn't compromise on flavour, doesn't feel like diet food and is suitable for the whole family.
What Cream Cheese is used?
For this recipe I use Light Philadelphia Herb and Garlic cream cheese - some supermarkets do their own version of this too.
If you can't get Herb and Garlic cream cheese, just add a 1 teaspoon of mixed herbs and ½ teaspoon of garlic powder, ½ teaspoon of onion powder to plain light cream cheese (amount needed for this recipe) and mix to combine.
Can I use Quark?
I don't recommend using quark in this recipe, it's not the same as cream cheese and has a more sour taste, it can also sometimes split in sauce when heated for a long period which is not desirable.
Sides for Tater Tot Casserole
It is always a good idea to serve a main course we a good portion of vegetable to balance out your plate and make it a more filling meal. This means you don't have to deprive yourself of all the foods you love if you stick to smaller sensible portions that fit within your calorie goal and pair with some vegetables.
I love to serve this along these Roasted French Green Beans - one of my favourite vegetable sides that I can pretty much eat just on their own from a plate.
But this will go well with any vegetables you like, just try to pick non starchy vegetables which are lower in calories.
