Cheesy Taco Breaded Basa Fillet - delicious oven baked basa with a golden cheesy taco breadcrumb topping, making this a great recipe for the whole family to enjoy.
This delicious cheesy taco breading works well with any kind of white fish or chicken, it's a quick and easy recipe that can be paired with a variety of sides for the family to dig in and enjoy.
I try to include at least one fish recipe in my meal plan each week, and the quicker and easier it is to make the better.
Best Type of White Fish for baking
If you don't like basa, any type of white fish will work well for this. Some of my other favourites to use are:
- Halibut
- Haddock
- Cod
- Tilapia
and of course if you don't like fish at all, you could even use some thin chicken cutlets.
Homemade Taco Seasoning
For this recipe I use my own blend of spices for the taco seasoning, but if you have some taco seasoning on hand that you like to use and want to save some time, then you can definitely make the swap.
Just be aware some taco seasonings have sugar added to them.
In my simple taco seasoning I use:
½ teaspoon of cumin
½ teaspoon of oregano
½ teaspoon of garlic powder
¼ teaspoon of onion powder
¼ teaspoon of cayenne (can use more if you prefer spicer)
salt and black pepper
Making Homemade Breadcrumbs
Breadcrumbs are super easy to make, and making your own is a great option when trying to eat healthier as you can use a preferred choice of high quality high fibre bread or if you are gluten free you can also use your favourite gluten free bread to make the breadcrumbs.
You just lightly toast the bread (bread that is a few days old works best), add it to a food processor, and spin the blades until it is fine crumbs.
Then you can add in some seasonings to the breadcrumbs to flavour the dish of what you want to use them for.
Can I use ready made breadcrumbs?
Don't fancy the faff of making your own breadcrumbs or maybe you don't have a food processor or similar.
You can definitely use store bought ready made breadcrumbs if you prefer. I recommend golden breadcrumbs instead of panko, but panko will work if that is all you have.
Just be aware that you need to count them on Slimming Eats if you are not using your healthy extra b choice of bread to make the breadcrumbs
Sides for Cheesy Taco Breaded Basa
For this yummy fish recipe I paired it with some Lime Cilantro Rice and Corn and Tomato Salsa, both recipes on Slimming Eats. This would go well with various sides. Here are a few other suggestions:
